David Claassen, manager of the Eluxolweni Shelter expressed his gratitude for this week's donation of a R5 000 cheque to the facility by GoTravel.

“We are very thankful for the donation, which will certainly help us with our Marimba Band project,” he said.

The shelter – registered with the department of Social Development – currently houses 20 boys between the ages of 8 and 18.

The aim of the shelter is to provide relief and care to neglected and abandoned children, with a particular devotion to street children.

“The Marimba Band project forms part of the weekly schedule which the boys follow,” said Neliswa Kofi, the social worker responsible for the shelter's residents.

“Ultimately we want to own our own Marimbas. Currently we have to make use of the Marimbas at the Cathedral of St Michael and St George, where the boys practice on Saturday mornings.”
