Some residents in Extension 9 could not eat or drink water on Wednesday morning because the water was brown.
When a Grocott's Mail reporter visited the area, resident Linda Papu said that they did not use the water because it was dirty.
"I did not cook and drink the water because it looked disgusting," she said.
Papu who stays in 4 Ncede street at Extension 9, said that she warned her daughter to not drink the water and asked for clean water from her neighbours.
"This water might cause stomach illnesses and other related diseases," Papu said angrily.
Nomangesi Ngeli, who is also a resident of Extension 9, said that the water is the same as that which runs on the street when it's raining.
"There's no difference between this water and the water that is in the dam," she said.
Ngeli added that if there was no bottled water in her house they were not going to eat – let alone drink the water.
Nomhle Mabindisa, who stays in 8 Ncede street at Extension 9, predicted that they would fall ill if they drank the water.
"The water is brown like the soil. We couldn't even wash our white clothes with that water," she said.
Mabindisa said that their children were getting sick.
She concluded by saying that she wished the municipality could work things out properly so that they did not have to deal with these problems.
