Kingswood College matric pupil Matthew Stapleton was recently selected to represent Eastern Province at U20 level at this year’s South African National Aquatic Championships in Port Elizabeth from 10 to 13 April.

Matthew has been a permanent fixture in the Kingswood water polo first team since his Grade 8 year. He has represented them on more than 150 occasions and has captained them for the past two years.

He has also represented his province at age group level since under-13. This year’s Currie Cup tournament is of further interest, in that an U20 South African side will be selected to attend the 17th FINA World Men’s Junior Water Polo Championships in Szombathely, Hungary, from 12 to 18 August.

“I’m so excited at the opportunity, but I may just be a bit young for this one” said Stapleton.

He has set the acquisition of a South African Water Polo cap as one of his goals for the near future.

The SA National Aquatic Championships will be held at the Newton Park swimming pool in Port Elizabeth from 10 to 13 April.
