The two current top teams in the South Eastern District Rugby Union (Sedru) Makana Mayoral Cup tournament will battle for top spot this weekend.

Eastern rugby club are the current log leaders after the past weekend's matches. Although Eastern and Winter Rose both have 19 points, Eastern lead by point difference.

Both teams are still unbeaten in the competition, but that will change come Saturday, when only one will remain unbeaten. In third spot is Brumbies with 13 points and fourth are Lily White with 12 points.

The remaining four sides, Old Collegians, Wanderers, Swallows and Universal will be desperately looking for a win this weekend, before the top four (spot in the competition semi-finals) gets too far out of their reach.

The competition has been well supported, with the community taking in the club rugby action.

Siphiwo Baninzi, chairperson of Sedru, encouraged the community to continue to support the local rugby matches.

The competition continues until Thursday 21 March, when the final will be played.

Results from the past weekend's matches:

    • Brumbies 7 – Universals 3
    • Winter Rose 20 – Old Collegians 5
    • Lily White 22 – Wanderers 0
    • Eastern 28 – Swallows 0
