Grahamstown police are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving involving a municipal vehicle.

Grahamstown police are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving involving a municipal vehicle.

According to police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender, several people were injured in the accident on Wednesday morning and were taken to hospital.

The SAPS would not release the specifics of the incident, such as the number of cars involved, what might have caused it or how many people were injured.

Govender said details of the accident are not clear.

However Makana municipal spokesperson Mncedisi Boma confirmed rumours that a municipal vehicle driven by an employee was involved in the crash on the industrial road.

Driving instructor Anna-Maré Francene Fourie came across the scene with one of her learners close to Mike's Driving School that morning at 8am.

"We were driving from Cradock Road onto the industrial road. As we took the turn at Mike's parking area we saw the accident on the right-hand side of the road," Fourie said.

"The Makana vehicle was lying on its side, and I saw two men lying on the grass – there could have been more."
