Contrary to a report by the SAPS earlier today, the 39-year-old man who allegedly burgled the Grahamstown Spur this morning was not locked in the store after falling asleep there, but entered the shop through the roof in the night.
According to Spur manager Wessel Benson, whose security cameras captured the man climbing through the roof panels, the suspect had entered the store with the intention of stealing from the restaurant. "We have footage of him stealing from the store," he told Grocott's Mail.
When asked where he thought the erroneous reports originated from, Benson said it was the story the suspect had told people in an attempt to exonerate himself.
More details will follow in Tuesday's edition of Grocott's Mail. In the meantime, read more crime and courts news here.
