Makana municipality councillor Paul Notyawa was involved in an accident on Sunday afternoon when his car overturned on the way to Port Elizabeth.

Makana municipality councillor Paul Notyawa was involved in an accident on Sunday afternoon when his car overturned on the way to Port Elizabeth.

Councillor Mabhuti Matyumza confirmed yesterday that Notyawa was indeed involved in an accident and said the car was a write-off.

“He is admitted at Life St George's Hospital (PE) although he was not severely injured; when I went to visit him yesterday (Wednesday) the doctors told me he was doing well but is still under supervision,” Matyumza said, adding that he could not see Notyawa and he was being attended to at the time of his visit.

He said they heard about the rumour of Notyawa's accident on Monday when he did not pitch for the mayoral committee meeting. “The rumour was confirmed by the police that he was indeed involved in an accident on the way to PE,” he said.

Matyumza informed the council on Wednesday about Notyawa's accident.

Yesterday, speaker Rachel Madinda-Isaac said she tried to contact Notyawa but did not get a response. She said they had no further details about the accident.
