Andrew Bovey won the Grahamstown Golf Club’s most prestigious event of the year, the Settler City Toyota. Bovey shot a 73 nett over the 18 hole competition to give him 44 individual stableford points.

Michael February finished on 41 points to take second place while Dave Dower took third with 40 points.

Leon Claasen, Grahamstown Golf Club captain, said to score 40 or more points on Saturday was “brilliant in those conditions”, adding that the weather was not the greatest “but everyone played in the same conditions”.

Bovey also won the longest drive on the 18th hole, while Lyn Rossouw was the women’s longest drive winner.

Over 60 golfers took part in the golf day, which ended with a dinner and prize-giving function. Claasen said while Settler City Toyota were the main sponsors of the day, there were a number of smaller contributors that sponsored tee boxes and greens. The event is also the main fundraiser for the golf club.

Claasen said the golf club’s green keeper, Patrick Luddick, and his team had done a great job to have the course looking in fine form.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) is the Pick n Pay Golf Day, which will be followed by the monthly steak evening.
