To welcome both naughty and nice bicycle enthusiasts to Grahamstown’s newest sporting group, it was decided that its name will be the Saints and Sinners Cycling Club. The new outfit was launched and its committee elected at an inaugural annual general meeting last week.

More than 50 keen cyclists and residents attended the meeting, where the design of the club’s official vest bearing the aloe’s fiery red and green colours was also revealed.

Doug Cuppleditch was elected as the first chairperson, with John Stapleton as the club treasurer and Nicole Craig as secretary. Additional members are Adam Smith, David Wright and Chris Johnson.

“Whether you are a roadie, mountain goat or a combination of the two, Saints and Sinners will help you find what you are looking for in the Grahamstown area,” Johnson said. He believes the saucy name “incorporates all Grahamstown riders”.

Smith said the club will plan regular club rides, with the first scheduled to take place this weekend. “The development committee has planned a trial schedule until the end of the year. We will be seeking more specific feedback in this period to then set the club ride plan for next year,” he said.

Johnson said they hope to have 100 members signed up before Christmas.

For more information or to join the club, contact Chris Johnson at 073 9047 904 or italchrjoh1234231@gmail.com/ital. You can also visit the club’s Facebook page.
