Sunday's scorching weather was as sure an indication as any that spring is fast making way for summer, which is great news for those who love the outdoors. With longer and warmer days now upon us, it's time for even the laziest of cyclists to dust off their bikes and hit the roads or the trails.

Sunday's scorching weather was as sure an indication as any that spring is fast making way for summer, which is great news for those who love the outdoors. With longer and warmer days now upon us, it's time for even the laziest of cyclists to dust off their bikes and hit the roads or the trails.

Many have already established riding goals, and while some will join the beginners’ group in Grahamstown’s new cycling club, others aim to set the cycling bar much higher. On 10 March next year 35 000 cyclists will descend upon Cape Town for the annual Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour, and while ordinary entries have already sold out, the great news is that you can still enter to ride for a charity organisation.

Grahamstown Hospice is one such organisation and by cycling for our local Hospice team you not only get to be part of one of the world’s most beautiful races, but you will also make a meaningful contribution to a local cause.

Even if you have already entered, you can still cycle for the Grahamstown Hospice. As a Grahamstown Hospice rider, you will receive:

* Guaranteed entry into the race. (Grahamstown Hospice will handle the registration process for you)

* A start time of no later than 8:45am (the last start is at about 10am. Bond members who qualify for an earlier start will still be seeded accordingly with the option to drop down to ride with their colleagues).

* Late closing date for entries of 1 January 2013.

* Special area at registration for collection of race packs

* Branded Grahamstown Hospice gear to wear on the day

Each rider will be expected to raise a minimum of R3 000 through any one or a combination of the following ways:

* Selling raffle tickets (prizes and raffle sheets will be supplied by Grahamstown Hospice)

*Holding a fundraising event (eg dinner/ dance/music evening etc)

* Sponsorship – getting your friends/family/colleagues/company to either give a ‘straight’ donation or sponsor you per km you ride.

Each team member’s profile will be loaded onto the St Luke’s Hospice Cape Town website, making it easy for your friends and family to pledge their support.

If you, your company or your school are interested in supporting the Grahamstown Hospice in this initiative, please contact David Barker at the Hospice offices on 046 622 9661 or d.barker@grahamstownhospice.org.za
