The Lebone Centre in Currie Street will shortly have a new classroom, thanks to generous sponsorship from GM Kenrich Grahamstown and head office. The current area at the back of Lebone is a carport, which will be converted into a classroom, with bricks sponsored by Makana Brick.

Centre Manager Anneliese Maritz said the current classroom for Pre-Grade Rs (in the morning) and aftercare and enrichment programme (afternoons) can only accommodate 15 children. However, the new classroom will be able to accommodate 20 pupils for both these groups.

Kenrich also funds the aftercare programme. Two Kenrich staff members visit the centre each Friday afternoon where the staff engage with the children. The Kenrich staff also took the pupils on an end-of-term outing recently.

Maritz said the current centre 'bookery', where books given to the centre are stored, graded, and then handed to appropriate schools, will move to the old classroom.

Maritz said the centre is looking for funding in order to turn the old 'bookery' room into a computer room.
