Disappointing day for Kingswood Stayers XI

Kingswood College had the opportunity to host players from a UK visiting side from Ethan College during their South African tour last week.

On Wednesday, 25 October, they took advantage of a gap in the rain and played a game on Kingswood's City Lords cricket field.
Kingswood Stayers XI (non-matric first team) played the match in an attempt to both prepare for the 2013 season and also to have a look at some of the younger players coming through the ranks.

After being put in to bat the Ethan players started cautiously, but built up good momentum throughout the innings. The home side bowlers conceded far too many extras but the spinners did a good job, which the touring side took note of and used perfectly later in the game.

Ethan managed to score 141 and Kingswood player Josh Shelley took two wickets for six runs.

The Kingswood batsmen showed their inexperience however, as they faulted in the run chase.

There was arguably no pressure on the batsmen, but poor shot selection and ill discipline meant that they were in serious trouble. A few small partnerships got them within sight of the target, but by that time it had been left too late.

Kyle Handley (26) and Joshua Shelley (20) were the only batsmen to spend some time at the crease, in what was a disappointing day for the young players.

In the end, Kingswood fell 29 runs short as they managed 112 all out.
