The council cogs have been set in motion to see three vacant posts in top senior management permanently filled by the end of the year. For months now Makana has had employees acting in the positions of municipal manager, chief financial officer and director of community and social services.

Last week Thursday a second round of applicants were short-listed for the CFO position, after Council decision makers didn't find anyone suitable among the first group of candidates in July. Speaking to Grocott's Mail on Friday, acting municipal manager Thembinkosi Myalato confirmed that new candidates had been shortlisted last week and interviews would be conducted this Friday.

Myalato is also the infrastructure and technical services director. We will also advertise the post of municipal manager [this Friday]in all the local and national newspapers, Myalato said. There will also be a special Council meeting to appoint the director of community and social services before the end of October.

Parks and recreation manager Kevin Bates has been acting as the community and social services director on a month-to-month basis. Last week in a press briefing Executive Mayor Zamuxolo Peter said that a new municipal manager must be appointed before the end of the year.

After suspended municipal manager Ntombi Baart's contract was terminated at the end of last month, ending in an out-of-court settlement, all charges against her were dropped. The previous CFO Jackson Ngcelwane's contract had ended in July this year after he was suspended for a year on full pay.
