One batsman on the St Andrew's College 1st XI cricket side scored a century to help his team on its way to a good derby win against Kingswood College on Saturday.

At the St Andrew's Lower Field, Kingswood won the toss and opted to make first use of the overcast conditions and put St Andrew's in to bat. Kingswood's opening bowlers Aneliso Mteto and Lihleli Xoli made use of the fresh conditions, dismissing Andrew Rushmere and Murray Leith early on.

St Andrew's were firmly on the back foot and at 10/2 St Andrew's batsmen Mbulelo Mama and Greg King were left with a tough task of rebuilding their innings. They did so with determination with a risk-free 155 run partnership moving the St Andrew's innings into safety and posting a competitive 231 total in their 50 overs.

King finished on a superb 103 and was well supported by Mbulelo Mama's disciplined knock of 63.

Sintu Manjezi and Brian Ferguson gave St Andrew's early momentum taking two wickets each. St Andrew's managed to pick up wickets at regular intervals, not allowing the Kingswood batsmen to settle.

Anslem Castelyn (28) offered resistance but it was Grant Stretton's left arm spin that stole the show, picking up five wickets for 12 runs in his 10 overs, dismissing Kingswood for 111 and helping St Andrew's to win by 120 runs.
