Spring is in the air and the numerous fun runs taking part in the next few weeks are sure to get Grahamstown residents fit and healthy by year-end.

Fun run/walk season starts on 13 October with two events on the day. Royal Canin Grahamstown SPCA 3km Hound Hike from the PJ Olivier Sports Field. Registration starts from 8.30am to 9am. Entry fee is R20 for adults and R10 children under 12. R5 per dog. There are Royal Canin-sponsored freebies and spot prizes. There are plans for various activities throughout the morning which are still to be confirmed. Put your walking shoes on and come and enjoy a gentle walk and a morning out with your four-legged friends. For an entry form or more information contact Karen at k.kouari@ru.ac.za

Gandhi Walk, organised by the Grahamstown Hindu Seva Samaj invites you and your family to the 5km Gandhi Walk to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of peace, reconciliation and unity. Entrance fee is R10 donation, registration starts from 2.30pm at the Hindu Temple, Kettlewell Street. Proceeds in aid of Gadra Education.

It's back up the hill to PJ Olivier for the annual Rapportryers and PJ 5km fun run/walk on Thursday 25 October, at 5.30pm. Earlier this year PJ had the unfortunate fire that left one of its academic blocks in ruin. This disastrous event caused damage to the amount of R7 million – an amount that no government school can afford. The school was insured, but as with any insurance, there will be a substantial shortfall. The Rapportryers of Grahamstown has dedicated their annual fun run to PJ.

From 26 to 28 October is the Bathurst Country Affair. During this event there will be a charity walk. The walk will be held on the Sunday 28 at 10.30am from The Bathurst Arms. Registration will take place from 9.30am to 10.30am. The scenic walk through the village includes stops and refreshments at some of the interesting and historic landmarks of Bathurst, including: the Toposcope, Agricultural Museum and St John’s Church. Entry Fee R30. T-shirt (optional) R70. Visit the websitewww.bathurstcountryaffair.co.za for more information, also on the website is the entry form, or contact Mike at 073 686 7321 or cramptonster@gmail.com

If you are planning a fun run, make sure to send your details to sport@grocotts.co.za
