    Graeme boys, moms hit the ramp

    Watch out Milan runways, because all eyes were on local boys of all ages and their moms who dressed up to the nines on Friday at the Graeme College Fashion Show.

    Watch out Milan runways, because all eyes were on local boys of all ages and their moms who dressed up to the nines on Friday at the Graeme College Fashion Show.

    Starting off with boys riding plastic pushbikes, bubbles and balls, the toddlers broke the ice with some cute playwear. Casual and formal daywear were followed by evening wear, a special vintage collection from Madelize van der Merwe, and then sportswear.

    In the grand finale, beachwear, the older boys (some of whom were first-team rugby players who took every opportunity to flex their pecs) entertained two large groups of girls in the packed hall who were unrestrained in their appreciation.

    Clothing for the show was generously sponsored by local clothing outlet Birch’s, as well as Edgars, Woolworths and Pearl Reef boutique and many local businesses provided prizes and gift hampers.

    The show was the culmination of five weeks of rehearsals. Ballroom dance instructor Francois van Eck choreographed the spectacle, which showed humour, class and a great understanding of the 52 different individual personalities involved. And the 40 boys who took part all jumped at the chance, said organiser Virginia Reed.

    In between the clothing collections were performances by pupil groups KFC, featuring singer Lukhanyo, headbangers Misnoma and classy acapella group, G7.

    The show ended with the auctioning of an elegant cocktail dress that fetched R1 000.
