The former school of finalist in the Top Billing search for a new presenter, Khanya Ngumbela, isn't a bit surprised that she made it into the top 10. The DSG old girl, who was born in Vincent Heights, East London, was only four places away from winning the My Top Billing Competition.

“I used to laugh at people in the TV industry,” she told Grocott's Mail in a telephone interview yesterday. But her experience in the competition has confirmed that's actually where she wants to be.

The full-time model heard about the auditions from her friends and fellow models/ presenters, and on Twitter. “I'm a huge twitter addict,” she said. “Auditioning, I didn't really know what I was getting myself into. I wasn't prepared,” Ngumbela told Grocott's Mail.

“I didn't know how to feel [about making it]. It all happened so quickly. I got the call and two days later I was moving out of my apartment and into the penthouse. It was so surreal. It's been eight weeks and I still ask myself, 'What just happened?'” “I am not surprised with her achievements. She was very outgoing and talented and I am very proud of her,” says Melanie Webb, DSG deputy head. “[Ngumbela] has always been a good public speaker.”

A former prefect, Ngumbela is attributed to have had good leadership qualities and was considered fun by the other students, as well as an inspiration to her peers. While Ngumbela did not make it past the top four, she assured us it was not the last we'd seen of her.
