The South African men’s Lightweight Four rowing team – en route to the London Olympics at the time this article was written – won a silver medal at the World Cup Regatta in Lucerne, Switzerland, recently.

This was the team's last international outing before the 2012 London Olympics. Rowing is ranked in the top five Olympic sports in South Africa and this close to the Olympics, the country is enthused by their strong performance.

South Africa’s oarsmen are stroke Lawrence Ndlovu, 32, John Smith, 22, Matthew Brittain, 25, and Thomson, 26, in the bow.
