    Road Runners recognised for year’s efforts

    The Albany Road Runners club held its prize-giving and annual general meeting at the Albany Sports Club at the beginning of February.

    The Albany Road Runners club held its prize-giving and annual general meeting at the Albany Sports Club at the beginning of February.

    In her review of 2011, outgoing chairperson Misty Weyer noted that the club's members had put in some good performances, with several wins and placings in both running and race walking, and a particularly strong presence at local and national trail running events.

    The following prizes were awarded for achievements throughout 2011:

    • Chairperson’s performer of the year: Nadine Bailie (for unstinting and inspiring service to the club)
    • Fastest half marathon (women): Lieschen Joubert
    • Fastest half marathon (men): Basie Boneparte
    • Fastest marathon (women): Liezl Nel
    • Fastest marathon (men): Sean Eriksen
    • Greatest number of competitive runs: Brian Bannatyne
    • Junior Trophy: Alvino Williams
    • Male walker of the year: Richard Alexander
    • Road runner of the year (women): Nadine Bailie
    • Road runner of the year (men): Basie Boneparte
    • Veteran runner of the year: Basie Boneparte
    • Master runner of the year: Richard Foss
    • Most improved runner: Revan Fillis.

    All Grahamstown runners are cordially invited to join the Albany Road Runners and enjoy Tuesday time trials at 5.30pm at the Albany Sports Club and Wednesday evening club runs at the same time and place. For further information contact italalbanyroadrunners@gmail.com/ital.
