Soroptimist International Grahamstown club members recently spent an afternoon in Beverly Wilson's garage, putting together care packages for the Rape Survivor's Support Group.

The support group provides very real assistance to survivors of rape and sexual offences and is also supported through funding from the Department of Social Development. The support group volunteers are called out by the police when a rape case is reported and they support the survivor by not only taking their statements, but also by being present and supportive throughout the ordeal of physical examinations and court appearances.

Soroptimist International Grahamstown has supported the Rape Survivor's Support Group since its inception, at various levels and recently the club identified the need for care packages to be provided. These generally include face cloths, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste and well as aqueous cream, as well as underwear, for after the medical "With 16 Days of Activism looming large on the horizon, it is the Club's fervent wish that the very real plight of abused women and children in Grahamstown is brought to the forefront," said Beverly Wilson, chairperson of Soroptimist International Grahamstown. "It is very sad that the community as a whole only pay attention to the plight of women and children 16 days of every year, whilst so many women and children are suffering very real daily abuse.
