The talk about town is that Makana Municipal Manager, Ntombi Baart will be leaving Makana for the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality (NMMM), which has recently received much media coverage for its political instability.

"I can confirm that I have applied for the position of the Municipal Manager at the Metro and have been to interviews," Baart told Grocott's Mail.

She added that she has a five-year contract with Makana, which she is committed to complete until its expiry date. "I have not as yet been advised of the outcome of the interview, except for the information I read in newspapers," she said.

NMMM Director of Communications, Roland Williams said that the municipality had not concluded on the appointment of its next Municipal Manager. The NMMM's recent problems have been widely publicised, and The Herald Online reported that Mayor Zanoxolo Wayile sent a letter to a senior national ANC leader "to call for urgent intervention… to avert a total collapse of the city’s administration".

The letter also made known reports of political manipulation regarding the appointment of a municipal manager, as well as fictitious job positions being created for friends and close allies of certain people within the municipality and factions that have formed within the municipality that are creating administrative problems.
