Wednesday night saw the opening of the Annual Carinus Art School Exhibition, where guests were greeted by awe-inspiring sculpted trees made from recycled objects. These trees formed part of the 'environmental awareness and sustainability' theme, which the school's 1128 pupils explored during the second term.

This year Carinus staff went the extra mile in challenging their pupils, and an exploration of many different media was evident. There were artworks such as dresses from plastic and newspaper, handbags made from unusual and recycled materials and even an animal skull was used as a canvas for a painting.

Guest speaker and pioneer in design education, Keith van Winkel, was “highly impressed with the excellent standard and variety of works on display,” he said.

The school's principal, Ginny Reed, said she would like to extend her gratitude to all the staff, learners and parents for their unstinting support and for making the evening an enjoyable and memorable one.
