Former Olympic athlete Zola Budd-Pieterse will be in town this weekend to promote the Newton running shoe brand.

While she's in the province, Budd-Pieterse will also take part in the Kowie Striders road race in Port Alfred.

The barefoot running legend will talk to runners about the brand after the 27km event, before travelling to Grahamstown to do a promotion at Albany Sports, at Pepper Grove mall.

Budd-Pieterse had not yet decided whether she would be running the 10km or the 27km, because she's currently preparing for the South African cross country championships in Bloemfontein, on 17 September.

The Kowie Striders 27km starts from the Big Pineapple in Bathurst tomorrow, with walkers starting at 6am and runners at 6.30am. The 27km finishes at the Port Alfred Country Club.

The 10km starts at 7am, from the Port Alfred Country Club. The 27km is a league event on the Eastern Province Athletics calendar. For more information about the 27km race, call Rob, at 071 185 2227.

Budd-Pieterse is expected to be at Albany Sports around midday.
