When the police arrive to record the details of a crash in town last week and to intervene in an altercation between the two drivers involved, things went from bad to worse. The driver of a municipal vehicle and the owner of a black Citi Golf argued bitterly about who was to blame for a collision near a parking bay outside Edgars, in High Street, on Friday morning.

When the police came, it seemed the dispute would be settled, as they drew their chalk markings around the area. But the driver of the municipal vehicle, disagreeing vehemently with that version of how things had stood, took the chalk and drew his own markings.

A parking marshal said the Citi Golf had collided with the municipal vehicle when it pulled out of a parking bay. After brief questioning, the driver of the Golf, himself a policeman, was allowed to go. Grocott's Mail was unable to get comment from the municipality. The two drivers are expected to appear in court soon.
