The DA have announced their candidates for the 14 Makana wards in the May 18 local elections.

The DA have announced their candidates for the 14 Makana wards in the May 18 local elections.

In a statement, the party said it was notable that all its candidates had alternative sources of income. While this presented some problems in their availability for meetings, it meant they were not solely dependent on the party for their livelihood.

The DA's candidate nomination process involved local branches identifying potential candidates among their membership and encouraging them to apply to become candidates. These potential candidates had to submit CVs, undergo interviews and be assessed in terms of their fitness for the job.

    The DA candidates are:

The DA's proportional representation list had yet to be finalised, the party said, but it anticipated that Cllr Les Reynolds, the branch chairman and local leader, would be No 1 and Cllr Xolani Madya No 2. The composition of their proportional representation list aimed for representation of all sections of the community (ethnic, gender, urban and rural) on the new Council, the party said.
