Juanita Finestone Praeg, of the drama department, and James Gambiza, of the Department of Environmental Science, have been named Rhodes University's top teachers for 2010.

Finestone Praeg received the Vice Chancellor's Distinguished Teaching Award and Gambiza the Vice Chancellor's Senior Distinguished Teaching Award, each worth R40 000.

"The Awards represent a considerable accomplishment in an academic career and are a significant acknowledgement from their peers at Rhodes University," said vice-chancellor Saleem Badat.

"On behalf of the university, I warmly congratulate them on their achievement."

Finestone Praeg and Gambiza will formally receive their awards at one of the university’s graduation ceremonies in April 2011. They will also each be invited to present a lecture to the Rhodes community and wider public later in the year.
