Kowie Striders held its annual 27km and 10km road races in Port Alfred on Saturday. The 27km was a participation league event on the Eastern Province Athletics calender.
Kowie Striders held its annual 27km and 10km road races in Port Alfred on Saturday. The 27km was a participation league event on the Eastern Province Athletics calender.
The 27km started from the Big Pineapple in Bathurst before hitting a gravel road and taking participants to the Port Alfred Country Club. The 10km started from the Country Club and took participants through town before returning back to the Country Club.
The first local home in the 27km was Simphiwe Tana of Port Elizabeth based Nedbank Running Club in a time of 1 hour 31 minutes 05 seconds. Thembinkosi Mdyogolo (Nedbank) was the next local in 1:37:00, and he was also first in the 40 to 49 age category.
Jene Banfield of Run/Walk For Life Athletics Club was the first local woman home in 2:02:37 and she finished as the third woman overall. Diana Grant was the next local home in 2:14:00. Richard Alexander of Run/Walk For Life was the winner of the 27km walking race in 3:05:06, while Carol Nepgen was the women's walking winner in 3:30:21.
In the 10km race, Rhodes student Nicholas Ntone was the first local in 40:43. Terri-Lynn Penney (Run/Walk For Life) was the women's winner with her time of 41:18.
