Mountain-biking in Grabouw

Over 350 excited mountain bikers gathered at the Oude Molen Brandy Distillery in Grabouw in the Western Cape, recently to participate in the inaugural Oude Molen Distillery MTB Challenge. Geddan Ruddock (2 hours 39 minutes 58 seconds) and Elzaan Visser (3:37:31) were the men’s and women’s 60km riders to beat on the day.

Over 350 excited mountain bikers gathered at the Oude Molen Brandy Distillery in Grabouw in the Western Cape, recently to participate in the inaugural Oude Molen Distillery MTB Challenge. Geddan Ruddock (2 hours 39 minutes 58 seconds) and Elzaan Visser (3:37:31) were the men’s and women’s 60km riders to beat on the day.

The start of the route took cyclists along some tough climbs and a few technical sections, while the last 20km was flatter, but cyclists battled against the wind.

Participants of the Oude Molen Distillery MTB Challenge could choose between a 60km, 35km and 10km route. The Oude Molen Distillery routes are open to the public, although one will need to purchase a permit before being allowed access to the routes.

The Oude Molen Distillery offers a permanentlymarked 20km and 40km route for riders to enjoy.Mountain biker, Gerhard Huiskens has been assigned thetask to conduct weekly route inspections and together with the assistance of Hendrico Burger and Spook Groenewald will be responsible for regular route maintenance.
