The U15 Young Killers Football Club team has topped the log of the newly introduced season, thanks to the tactics of coach Mxolisi Dlengezele. The Killers are currently topping the Makana U15 Football League junior log with an extensive number of goals ahead of other teams.

This was complemented by an impressive performance in the recent Sports ‘n Leisure Football tournament, where they were declared overall victors with the highest number of goals scored.

The tireless Dlengezele dedicates himself extensively to the club and its development. He trains boys from the development age of U13, grooming them through U15, U17 and then on to the senior team.

His love for football started back in high school, where the pupils played soccer matches as different classes. “We used to come back from breaktime sweating from running around and kicking the ball, the funny part is where teachers used to complain about our smelly armpits too,” says Dlengezele, chuckling.

The 37-year-old coach is a newspaper delivery guy during the day but, when it comes to training sessions, he transforms into super coach.

“I try to inflict a good spirit in our team and our players end up listening to the instruction I give them,” says Dlengezele.

He makes it certain that his coaching is democratic as he engages with the team’s captains in the selection of the squad.

The Killers are contesting for the Makana U15 Football League which was launched by the local Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture (DSRAC) in April this year.

Young Killers have so far drawn two of their games and only suffered one loss against Junior Stars. The side have scored 80 goals in 18 matches, putting them in a comfortable leading position in the junior league.
