Ida Makasa, staying in C Street in Joza, lost most of her belongings when her two bedroomed house burned down on Saturday afternoon.
It is believed that two seven year old boys had entered her yard to play there and decided to experiment with fire.
The blaze soon got out of hand and the house caught alight. Constance Mdabane, a neighbour said, “I knew something was terribly wrong when I saw a lot of smoke coming into my house.”
Mdabane and other neighbours tried to extinguish the fire but didn't succeed because there was
no water.
they had to use the small amounts of drinking water they had in their houses to prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring houses.
“I don’t even know the children who started the fire,” said Makasa. “I have lost clothes and furniture,” she said.
Makasa listed two beds, a wardrobe, sofas, and a televisionas some of the valuable items she lost in the fire. The fire was eventually extinguished by the municipal fire brigade.
