New elected Eastern Cape ANCYL secretary, Mziwonke Ndabeni endorsed former ANCYL president, Fikile Mbalula for the post of secretary general in 2012 – ahead of incumbent Gwede Mantashe.

Ndabeni was speaking at the Eastern Cape ANCYL conference held at Joza’s indoor sports centre at the weekend.

He also expressed concern for the country’s economy saying “ANC won 92% votes in last year’s elections but it still does not control the  economy”. Ndabeni said the province supported the idea of nationalising South Africa’s mines.

National Secretary General of the ANCYL, Vuyiswa Tulelo told the Sunday session that the nationalisation of mines would avail resources for education, create decent quality jobs for the youth, and let the labourers earn a decent salary.

Tulelo said the ANCYL wanted to get rid of international industries that were linked to South African mines because they were not contributing to the country’s economy. She also said  that they wanted South Africa to open its own companies that cut diamonds and clean gold.

The provincial delegation also defended ANCYL Julius Malema against charges of instigating “factionalist and divisive struggles within the ANCYL” and “tenderpreneurship” levelled by South African Communist Party President, Blade Nzimande.
