Swall ows rugby club narrowly beat a determined Rosebuds rugby club by 30-29 in an Eastern Province Rugby Union Wellman Harmse league match on Saturday.

Swallows centre Brian Goliath was the first player to score for Luvane Daniels to convert, giving their side an early 10-0 lead.

Rosebuds replied with two tries with Swallows taking a backseat at 7-12 behind. It was Swallows who then upped the pace with a penalty, which was then followed by a try through winger Wayne Max after centre Lesley Jack burst through the Rosebuds defence.

Shortly before halftime, Daniels succeeded with a long range drop goal for Swallows to take an 18-12 lead at the break.

From the second half whistle, Rosebuds attached from all angles which resulted in two quick tries, for Swallows to fall behind at 18-26.

Swallows substitute winger Rodney Goba scored before Rosebuds put over a penalty kick and Swallows lagged behind at 23-29.

Desperate for a try to save the match for Swallows, Daniels sliced through the Rosebuds backline for a 35 metre dash to score and convert his own try, giving Swallows a 30-29 win. In other matches, the Swallows 1 st reserves beat Rosebuds 24-11, and the Swallows beat Rosebuds 28-0.
