The new extension to Pepper Grove Mall has inspired many shops to relocate their businesses, causing a re-shuffle on High Street.

Mr Price Home’s recent relocation to new premises in the mall has left the space open for Spur to occupy. The building has now been fitted with lights and is prepared for the early stages of contruction.

“The Calabash theme is a little bit old now,” said Pierre Repinz, who co-owns both Redwood Spur and the Graham Hotel block with his brother Eugene.

“The Spur also needs an upgrade so we decided to incorporate both together,” added Eugene. Calabash restaurant at the Graham Hotel will be replaced by a mini mall of shops which will link the hotel to the Spur.

They expect the new, larger location to be better for the Spur with 230 seats as opposed to 170 seats in the old premises.

Other new facilities include a larger and better equipped children’s area to provide for Spur’s family market.

Eugene considers the new design to be fresher with increased use of metal, lighter wood and neon lighting.

Restaurant times will be extended with doors opening for breakfast at 7am. The Calabash will gradually fade out of action while the mini mall replacing it will include the car rental company Europcar, tour company
Blunden tours and possibly a hairdresser with long term hopes for a travel agent.

This mini mall will provide the entrance to the new Spur premises. The Repinz brothers consider this set-up as a “hospitality hub” where customers have access to many similar businesses under one roof.

Despite a start being made with renovations to the reception area of the hotel, the original date for completion, has been moved back to mid November.
