Tell your Friends DJs hosted a grand opening at Fingo’s Makhaya’s Place last weekend. DJ Fisherman, who produced a total of nine tracks for Johannesburg kwaito group Big Nuz including their number one hit Umlilo from their album of the same title rocked Grahamstown on Saturday night.

Still promoting his latest album The Fishtank Volume One released in May, Fisherman promised Grahamstown a never to forget night and indeed it was.

The 13-track album features artists such as Black Coffee, Tira from Durban’s Finest and Nana Koyote from legendary group Stimela.

“The event was nice and the crowd was great. Everyone behaved well and next time I will bring the whole Afrotainment,” says Fisherman.

Local DJs Miles, Udz, Leja and Yubz were the local guest DJs who spun the decks alongside Fisherman. Last night, Makhaya’s Place hosted Durban producer and club DJ Black Coffee who has been serving his music not only to he country but overseas for over a decade.

Nkosinathi Maphumulo has featured in a number of local and international clubs like Taboo, Cafe de Flore in Swaziland, Djoon in Paris, Scala in London, Ambassador in Lyon, Café Mugambo in Swaziland’s New Year’s Eve Parties and in events like 2008 and 2009 Miami Winter Festival, 2008 and 2009 Ultra Music Festival in Miami and Sutra in Cape Town.

Award-winning DJ Black Coffee is well known for his smash hit remixes, most of which have dominated the airwaves in the past couple of years.

He last visited  Grahamstown in February early this year, when he attracted a large student crowd while promoting his album Home Brewed which was released last November.

“The work that people are to witness live will be like a dream to them because he goes beyond mixing,” says Amaru da Costa, the Black Coffee Manager from music company Soulistic Music.

On Friday, Durban house duo DJ Sox and Tira who make up Durban’s Finest will show Makhaya’s Place why they are the finest.

DJ Tira who was nominated four times in this year’s South African Music Awards (Samas) and will take to the decks at Makhaya’s Place on Saturday night from 6pm till late.

“This time the standard of our DJs is high, we have big names coming through so we urge people to come through and enjoy themselves” says DJ Ivy of organising crew Tell your Friends production. For more information call Makhaya on 073 404 7553.
