The Rhodes Great Field was host to an Adams Cup match between Brumbies and Kwaru of Port Elizabeth on Saturday afternoon.

Vincent Mains from the Brumbies opened with a penalty kick in the early stages of the match. Minutes after, Christopher Mqubuli passed through the Kwaru defence to score the first try of the match.

It was 10-0 to Brumbies when Kwaru came back into the game and scored a penalty and a converted try, bringing the score to 10 all.

Just before halftime Mains scored yet another penalty kick making the score 13-10 to Brumbies going to halftime.

Mains opened the second half with a penalty kick before he capitalised with a drop kick, while Kwaru were also rewarded with a penalty kick.

The final score was 19-13 to Brumbies who will face Uitenhage Rugby Football Club in an away game at the Central Grounds.

"Kwaru put a lot of pressure on us, especially towards the end. But we defended well and during last week’s training camps we put alot of hard work especially in defence" says Brumbies manager Xanephen May.

He would also like to send a vote of thanks to Defence Coach Western du Plessis for tightening the team’s defence.
