    Silver at SA karate champs

    York Senior, a Grade 9 pupil at St Andrew’s College, recently represented Border JKA at the National South
    African karate championships which took place on 16 and 17 April.

    York Senior, a Grade 9 pupil at St Andrew’s College, recently represented Border JKA at the National South
    African karate championships which took place on 16 and 17 April.

    The event was held at the Standard Bank Arena in Johannesburg. York represented Border JKA in both kumite (sparring or fighting against an opponent) and kata which is (sets of defence and attack movements against an imaginary opponent).

    Boys get down and girly Silver at SA karate champs York was awarded second place (silver) in the kumite youth elite black/brown belt boys in his category.

    The final bout was closely contest with York losing three to two points in the last seconds of the fight. This is the second year that York has won a silver medal at the championships. He also made it into the third round in the kata event.
