    Local students debate in New York

    Tw o Rhodes students will be representing the continent at an international debating tournament in New York next week.

    Tw o Rhodes students will be representing the continent at an international debating tournament in New York next week.

    Ingrid Cloete and Clive Eley have been invited to compete in the International Debate Education Association and Hobart and William Smith Colleges (IDEA/HWS) Round Robin from 2 to 4 April, after performing exceptionally well at the Pan-African Universities Debating Competition (PAUDC) in Botswana last year.

    The IDEA/HWS pits teams who have won regional competitions against each another, bringing together a group of debaters and adjudicators from around the world during the tournament.

    Cloete and Eley will be representing both Rhodes and Africa.The takes place from 2 to 4 April. The event is an invitation only tournament including 16 teams who have won regional competitions around the world.

    While in New York, the pair will also compete in the Colgate University Invitational Tournament as a warm up before the IDEA/HWS Round Robin.Cloete is currently in her final year of a LL B, while Eley is studying towards a Masters in  Chemistry.
