Thirteen Victoria Girls’ High School pupils have been suspended after they were accused of eating marijuana muffins at the school last week.

The incident took place during the school’s Founder’s Day weekend celebrations. Police reports said that two Grade 10 learners had brought the muffins to school and shared them out among their friends. The girls were caught after other pupils reported them to staff.

An immediate management staff meeting was called where it was decided that the offence was too serious for just the school to deal with so the police were notified.

At first, the police wanted to arrest all 13 girls but eventually it was decided that only the two who brought the muffins to school would be taken in for  questioning. The girls were released into the custody of their parents later that day.

All 13 have been  suspended and are awaiting a school hearing. “All procedures will be followed according to the school Code of Conduct but we believe in corrective rather than just punitive measures,” said the principal of the school, Madeleine Schoeman.
