Rhodes Music Radio (RMR) is giving Grahamstown a chance to talk directly to our government by hosting a ‘Talk to your minister’ slot.

Rhodes Music Radio (RMR) is giving Grahamstown a chance to talk directly to our government by hosting a ‘Talk to your minister’ slot.

Every weekday at 6pm starting this Tuesday, there is a different minister to answer questions from Grahamstown residents. This is an initiative inspired by the state-of-the-nation communication wave.

Every year the Governmental Communication and Information Services (GCIS) attempts to open communication between the government and the people through community radio stations.

The president’s state-of-the-nation address, signifies the beginning of this period of communication
and is a chance for South Africans to question policies and decisions and have their say in the running of the country.

According to RMR station manager Gugulethu Mhlungu, RMR is hoping that “these programmes will be insightful and assist in getting some debate and clarity about the various ministerial clusters in our
government.”

There are seven shows in total, each with a representative from the following clusters:the Economic Sector and Employment cluster (Tuesday, 2 March), the Governance and Administration cluster (Wednesday, 3 March), the Justice Crime Prevention and Security cluster (Thursday, 4 March), the  International Cooperation, Trade and Security cluster (Tuesday, 9 March) and the Human Development  cluster (Thursday, 11 March).

The guests for Friday 5 March and Wednesday 10 March are to be  announced. According to Mhlungu, some of the representatives will be ministers, but at times a deputy  minister will stand in if the minister is unavailable.

RMR will only be informed on the day of each programme  who will be attending. Questions and comments can be sent via SMS to 072 117 7448 (standard rates apply) or to RMR’s  website at www.rhodesmusicradio.co.za. Tune in to 89.7fm to catch the show.
