The Makana Local Football Association Metropolitan league is well underway with a number of teams already playing 14 matches.

The first round of the Metropolitan league is in its final stages, before the second round matches will take place.

Log leaders after the weekend’s matches were Joza Callies with 34 points. They are closely followed by last year’s league winners City Pirates on 33 points.

Makana Pillars are third with 28 points. The league is currently played on four days a week, with all  matches taking place on the JD Dlepu Stadium’s A and B fields.

This week saw matches played on Wednesday and last night, while games will also take place on Saturday and Sunday.

There are 16 teams in the Metropolitan league, the only league under the LFA, after the development league was abandoned during  the last season, due to many teams not paying their affiliation fees.

    Those teams who were paid up were automatically included in the Metropolitan league. All the league positions after the weekend’s games: 1. Joza Callies (34), 2. City Pirates (33), 3. Makana Pillars (28), 4. Cameroon (27), 5. New Town City (25), 6. Santos (24), 7. Golden Stars (23), 8. Italy (23), 9. Love and Peace (21), 10. Young Stars (15), 11. Fighters (14), 12. Extension 9 Eleven Attackers (13), 13. Royals (10), 14. Chiefs (8), 15.  Mountain Shades (5), 16. Chelsea (2).
