On Monday this week the light drizzle of Sunday evening turned into the first proper downpour that the drought-stricken region has felt for a while.

On Monday this week the light drizzle of Sunday evening turned into the first proper downpour that the drought-stricken region has felt for a while.

Yet along with wet weather comes the danger of slippery roads and this Monday was no exception with no
less than six accidents occurring on our roads.

Three accidents occurred near Grahamstown and three in the vicinity of Port Alfred. Despite the high number of accidents no serious injuries were reported.

In one collision, 80km from Port Alfred in the East London direction, a speeding taxi lost control and overturned.

Seven people were injured but only one required hospitalisation. In another accident, a car lost control,
crashing into a barrier and then the cliffside before coming to a halt. The driver was not seriously injured and
was treated for facial injuries and multiple lacerations.

The remaining accidents were relatively minor with no serious injuries sustained.
