Artists who would like to partake in the Fringe programme during the 2010 National Arts Festival, which will run from 20 June to 4 July in Grahamstown this year, are being granted one final extension to ensure that their application forms are submitted by 25 January.

Last year, 424 productions totaling 1 822 performances made their way to Grahamstown to perform on the Fringe.

The Festival hosted over 170 000 visitors during 2009, and is gearing up to host additional international audiences who will be in South Africa during the World Cup.

The closest stadium to Grahamstown, with eight scheduled matches, is the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth. Matches to be played there include the quarter finals on 2 July, as well as the 3rd/4th place playoffs on 10 July.

The National Arts Festival wants to provide tourists and soccer fans with the opportunity to experience ‘15 days of amazing’ in order to catch a glimpse of the soul of South Africa through its arts, in between watching the world’s best soccer talent that will be on display.

Performers and visitors to the National Arts Festival can once again expect the best of South African, African and international drama, music, dance, film, jazz and visual art, and a few other surprises, in various venues throughout Grahamstown.

Registration forms and the Info Booklets can be requested by email – fringe@nationalartsfestival. co.za or telephone – 046 603 1103. Online submissions can be made at www.nationalartsfestival.co.za/fringe.
