Longhurst is series runner-up

Local tri athlete, Kerry Longhurst took second place overall at the end of the Atlas Security Summer Series. Longhurst finished second in all three of the Summer series events, and took second spot for the series.

Local tri athlete, Kerry Longhurst took second place overall at the end of the Atlas Security Summer Series. Longhurst finished second in all three of the Summer series events, and took second spot for the series.

Each of the Summer series triathlons covered a 750 metre swim, 20km cycle and a 5km run. The first event was held at Happy Valley in Port Elizabeth on 16 December, the second at Hobie Beach, PE on 20 December, while the series ended off at Port St Francis on 26 December.

Terri-Lynn Penney, who finished third at the Hobie Beach leg, finished the series in a fourth spot tie. A number of local athletes travelled to the various series events, as part of their preparation for the Ironman Longhurst is series runner-up 70.3 South Africa which takes place in East London on Sunday 17 January.

The overall series results: Men: 1st – James Cunnama 2nd – Corney van der Ryst 3rd – Ryan Peter 4th – Justin Ashworth Women: 1st – Liza Bright 2nd – Kerry Longhurst 3rd – Alrie Velleman 4th – Ingrid Brown and Terri-Lynn Penney Grahamstown results: Happy Valley (overall winner – James Cunnama 59:20, first female – Liza Bright – 1:10:39): Neil Currie – 1:14:45 Kerry Longhurst – 1:15:18 Julie Truter – 1:22:39 Hobie Beach (overall winner James Cunnama 57:03, first female – Liza Bright 1:07:30): Neil Currie – 1:12:37 Kerry Longhurst – 1:14:12 Terri-Lynn Penney 1:17:49 Stephen Penney – 1:18:54 Keith Hoskin – 1:18:59 Janet Kelly – 1:25:07 Katjana Hoskin – 1:34:08 Port St Francis (overall winner – James Cunnama 1:02:05, first female – Liza Bright 1:14:13): Neil Currie – 1:20:02 Kerry Longhurst – 1:22:58 Keith Hoskin – 1:25:34 Katjana Hoskin – 1:41:05
