Shortly before the start of the national trials, the local players took part in a training camp in Port Elizabeth, where they also played a match against a veteran side.

The basketball players are members of the Rhodes University Basketball Club and or Makana Spears basketball club. Tisco Mati who is the Makana Spears coach/player, said he feels that a number of the local players stand a chance to be selected for the national sides, which are scheduled to be announced today.
