National and international artists are yet again offered an opportunity to showcase their many talents during next year’s National Arts Festival.
Energetic, creative, aspiring artists and performers have only one month left to book a spot on the Festival’s Fringe programme as the deadline is 15 January, 2010. Now in it’s 36th year, the Festival will be run concurrently with the 2010 Fifa World Cup for fifteen days- from 20 July to 4 July.
Fringe Manager, Kate Axe-Davies says "While many artists have already submitted their forms, anyone who applies ahead of the deadline will be accommodated."
She also warns that those who get in early are more likely to get first choice for their venues. With regards to submissions, she stated that the National Arts Festival has already received registrations from many Fringe regulars.
"It’s also exciting to see a crop of newcomers who will be making the pilgrimage to Grahamstown from across the country and internationally," she said.
Through the support of the Eastern Cape Tourism Board, Festival organisers did some extensive marketing at this year’s Edinburgh Festival which seems to have paid off as international artists have expressed their enthusiasm and interest to bring their productions to the National Arts Festival.
In other areas such as accommodation and transport, there have been more requests than usual at this time of the year.
Registration forms and information booklets can be requested by email from fringe@nationalartsfestival.co.za or 046 603 1103. Online submissions can be made at www.nationalartsfestival.co.za/fringe.
The National Arts Festival is sponsored by Standard Bank, The Eastern Cape Government, The National Arts Council, The National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund, The Sunday Independent and M-Net.
