The First City Regiment held its 134th anniversary celebration over the weekend.

Commanding officer of First City, Lieutenant Colonel Roger  says First City were involved in three area territorial reserve/area conventional reserve courses, which were held with the assistance of its brother regiments, Prince Alfred’s guard, Buffalo volunteer rifles and Regiment Piet Retief, as well as 6 SAI and Infantry School.

A driver and maintenance Ccurse and a 60mm mortar course was also presented. One company returned from Democratic Republic of the Congo in June 2009, under the command of Major Stone. They did extremely well with commendations from the mission commander.

The regiment is also currently busy with anti-poaching in the 6 SAI training area.

In the Corporate Communications division, the regiment hosted its annual shoot where 73 shottists attended. First City won the team event, X-Class section and the women’s section. The regiment also attended the St Andrews College Retreat ceremony, as well as the Bathurst Show where they won two first prizes. They are the current Eastern Cape Tug-o-war champions and took part in the Night bowls league and they also attended the Queens College trooping colour parade.

In training, 341 members attended formal courses while 430 members were medically examined this year.

First City also took part in various parades, namely: the ten year celebration of Peace Keeping in Africa, held in Bloemfontein and Remembrance Day parades in Grahamstown, Port Alfred and Peddie.
