The following are the current electricity tariffs (which were released in July) approved by the National Energy Regulator (Nersa) for Makana.
The components are:-
- The energy charge – cents per kilowatt hour of power used (c/kwh)
- The basic charge – what is paid for availability. Nersa does not appear to concern itself with the ampage of the circuit breaker, so presumably the basic charge is the maximum that can be charged to the user.
- Demand charge – which appears to be linked to customers using high voltage equipment.
Category | Basic charge | Energy Charge per kWh | Demand Charge per KVA |
Domestic Low (prepaid) | – | 79c | – |
Domestic Low (indigent) | – | 77.83c | – |
Domestic High | R59.60 | 68.88c | – |
Commercial (prepaid) | R534.76 | 57.79c | – |
Commercial (high) | R181.37 | 77.24c | – |
Industry/firms | R181.37 | 68c | R14.26 |
You may want to check your accounts to ensure that they are not being over charged, as these figures appear to refer to the maximum.
