The Mondi Addo Mountain Bike Challenge took place in Addo recently, offering cyclists three distances to choose from.

The main event was the 85km Mondi extreme challenge. There was also The Herald 60km challenge and a 30km family fun ride sponsored by Capespan.

Local cyclists Colin Meyer and Peter Britz took part in the 60km event, finishing in 27th and 28th position respectively, with the same time of 3 hours 30 minutes 10 seconds.

Britz finished as the second veteran master, while Meyer was ninth in the veteran category. Britz, who also took part in the event two years ago, said the Addo race has grown since then and has “great new routes through scenic game”. About 500 cyclists took part in the three events.

The overall race winner of the 60km was Gert Heyns in 2:35:31. There were 225 finishers in the 60km race.
