Derby win for St Andrew’s

Graeme College and St Andrew’s College met on the cricket fields on Saturday in a number of inter-school cricket fixtures.

St Andrew’s won the toss and elected to bat with the pitch looking good but turned out to be very low and slow due to the heat, making strokes difficult.

St Andrew’s won the toss and elected to bat with the pitch looking good but turned out to be very low and slow due to the heat, making strokes difficult.

After an early dismissal at 15-1, Paul Hofman and Michael Rushmere put on a 98 run partnership taking St Andrew’s to 107-1 after 25 overs.

Rushmere was run out for 45 and with Hofman going soon after that for 60, St Andrew’s got themselves stuck in the middle of the innings against the Graeme spinners.

Dale Austin and Sasha Gunn stuck around at the end, finishing the innings off well with an unbeaten 40 run partnership, St Andrew’s finishing on 195/7.

The pick of the bowlers for Graeme was Thato Lesoro who took three wickets for 25 runs. Thandisile  Nqowana  took 2/30.

After lunch St Andrew’s bowled a good line and length, with Graeme finding it hard to keep up with the run rate. Luvuyo Mabusela made 38 runs and Carl Oerson 31.

For St Andrew’s, Dale Austin picked up five wickets in his ten overs and was well supported by Ryan Dugmore, Paul Hofman and Richard O’Mahony.

Graeme were eventually dismissed for 146 after 46 overs, St Andrew’s won by 49 runs.
Other results:
2nds – St Andrew’s 260/7 in 50 overs, Graeme 158 in 50 overs (James Labuschagne 53, Juandré Nel 45). St Andrew’s won by 102 runs.

U15A – St Andrew’s  141 in 50 overs (Alex Banfield 3/28, Francois Nel 2/25, Dagan Wiblin 2/26, Abner Accom 2/36); Graeme 145/6 in 50 overs (Anselm Castelyn 34, Brendan Marais 29, Alveno Douglas 20 not out). Graeme won by four wickets.

U14A – Graeme U14A 63 in 50 overs (Siphosethu Pinini 44); St Andrew’s 64/1 in 50 overs. St Andrew’s won by nine wickets.
Graeme vs St Andrew’s Prep results:
U9A – Graeme 108/1 (Stefan Botha 20 not out); St Andrew’s 109/0. St Andrew’s won by 10 wickets.
U11A – Graeme 152/7 (Cobus van Zyl 41 not out, Kamva Ntapu 18 not out); St Andrew’s 130 (Seamus Coetzee 3/32). Graeme won by 32 runs.

U11B – Graeme 167 (Donovan Brits 44, Simamkele Ngxesha 28); St Andrew’s 39 (Lelethu Cekiso 4/12). Graeme won by 128 runs.

U13A – Graeme 196 (Keegan Fischer 57, Bradley Christian 54); St Andrew’s 196 (Craig Williams 5/25). The match was tied.

U13B – Graeme 170 (Liam Cadle 28); St Andrew’s U13B 172/9. St Andrew’s won by one wicket.
U13C – St Andrew’s Prep (Zukile Dyanti 3/19, Zusiphe Bulani 3/48); Graeme U13C 109/5 (Uzuqaqambe Nyanda 38 not out). Graeme won by seven wickets.
