Bradley Stephenson is currently in training to take on the slopes at the 2009 Freestyle World Cup which takes place in Suomu, Finland and in Meibel, France in December.

During August the Rhodes University student trained with the US skiiing freestyle coaches and athletes at Perisher in Australia, and competed in three Australia, New Zealand Continental Cup events.

The three events saw athletes being able to accumulate points in order to qualify for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

The second event was not counted for international points as the weather was so bad that the judges’ visibility was compromised.

However, Stephenson did well enough in the other two events to qualify for the next level of competition and get just one step away from the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Stephenson will now be representing South Africa at the Freestyle World Cup events in December.

He is currently ranked 215 in the world and is the first person from Africa to qualify for the World Cup in his discipline. In between all this, Stephenson is continuing with his studies at Rhodes.
